Larry Lee Lang of Jefferson, Iowa, died of cancer Aug. 9, 2018, surrounded by family and listening to his favorite music. He was 74.
Larry was born in Omaha, NE, on Dec. 24, 1943. He graduated from Mason City Newman High School in 1962, where he was a varsity athlete. He served in the Air Force from 1965-1969 and attended Loras College and the University of Iowa. In 1971, he married Joan Durlam Lang; the couple were married 46 years and have three children.
After beginning his career in the food distribution industry, Larry worked as a human resources executive before his retirement.
Larry was an avid golfer and a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved driving his blue Corvette and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He still holds the family record in Wii bowling under his self-given nickname: “The Legend.”
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ethel Lang; his father- and mother-in-law, Loran and Gracelyn Durlam; an infant son; and a nephew Scott Myli. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his children Megan (Tug) Ward, Kevin Lang, and Kristin Lang; his grandchildren Ryan, Caleigh, and Jordan; and his brothers and sisters, Marilyn (Dave) Myli, Jack (Margaret) Lang, Marcia (Jim) Siegel, Richard (Cindy) Lang, Pat (Sue) Lang of Ankeny, and Mike (Val) Lang of Ankeny. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Greene County Medical Center Foundation.
